How did we get here?

My journey in fashion started when I was 15, tinkering with my mom's old sewing machine after learning how to sew by hand in our Home Economics class. I then saved up to buy a secondhand electric sewing machine and watched every YouTube tutorial I could find so I can practice making clothes. Despite finishing a degree from an entirely different field, my heart pulled me towards fashion, so I decided to take a 1 year fashion design course. This led me to become a full-fledged fashion designer specializing in custom event wear, where I was able to express my creativity and collaborate with fellow creatives in my hometown. I was already teaching Pattern Making and Sewing classes at my alma mater when the pandemic brought everything to a sudden halt, forcing me to adapt in order to continue pursuing my passion.

Despite the uncertainty, I made a decisive move to invest the last of my resources in a cheap secondhand laptop. This paved the way for a new chapter in my career as I immersed myself in learning tech packs, design development, and 3D software from generous mentors who gave out their courses for free.

Armed with newfound skills, I started a brand with my colleagues and eventually landed a role in a design agency that specializes in product development and manufacturing. Starting from supporting the team on various design projects and administrative tasks, I gradually advanced to bigger responsibilities, including liaising with factories and managing production timelines. Having been fortunate enough to gain experience in the industry, I felt a deep sense of responsibility to share my knowledge and eventually moved on to extend my product development services to brands who need guidance and are struggling to launch their collections.

I envision a future where passionate brands are highlighted in the global fashion scene, and brand owners gain a deeper appreciation for the immense effort and craftsmanship invested in each piece of clothing. Together, we can create opportunities for everyone wherever that may be, while still remaining good stewards of people and the planet.
